How these PDF tools work
Each tool runs as code in your browser tab. When you choose a file, it is read from your device into memory, processed there, and handed back as a download. There is no server step, which is why there is no upload wait and no file size cap from us. Very large files are limited only by your device memory. You can switch your internet off after the page loads and the tools still work.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Processing happens on your device. The page itself loads from the web, but your files are not sent to any server.
Does compressing keep my text selectable?
The "Keep text" level keeps it, but usually saves little. The stronger levels turn each page into a picture to shrink the file, so text can no longer be selected or searched. The tool tells you the new size before you download.
Can it open password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first, then use the tool.
